Security: The Journey Never Ends

I like Microsoft Access because my company's clients are happy with Access before they call us in and even happier after we have set up the database and user interface. It is a fun and challenging environment to work in, and it generally is versatile enough to adapt to most situations. So, having mastered most of the skills necessary to work with the product, I was left with the choice to learn a new product and tout that skill to my clients or find a new Access skill that I can market to my clients. As you can guess, I decided on the latter, and now I like to emphasize the benefits of protection and security for their existing and new Access databases. One example of the value of this approach is when my company was selected to manage and protect the exploration databases for a mining company based in the Gobi Desert (as shown in Figure 1-4). As readers of this book, you too can reap the benefits of this approach and become skilled in protecting and securing your own Access databases. An interesting twist to that additional skill is that once you conquer the protection and security issues relevant to your databases, you will always find more to do because with computer security, the journey never ends.
