The product purpose is the basis for determining which subject matter domains we need to study. For each product purpose statement, ask, "Does this objective mention or imply subject matter areas that we need to study to build this product?" For example, suppose that one purpose is to provide rail transport for members of the general public. Then we can say that we need to study the domains of rail transport and the general public. The next interesting question is, "How much of each of these domains is relevant to the product that we intend to build?" We address this question when we set the context of the problem. Diagram 1.3.
