This chapter presented some of the issues involved with limiting trace statements and explained why, until LIMODS, controlling trace statements across large development teams has been difficult. The key requirement for LIMODS was to make it simple to use. To that end, LIMODS requires only a single-line source change for Visual C++ programs and just slightly more lines for Visual Basic programs.

LIMODS has been a long time in the making. I had the original idea for LIMODS five years ago but until now hadn't figured out a way to make the utility as nonintrusive as possible—and easy to use. With LIMODS, you can now use trace statements all you want. LIMODS lets you have your cake and eat it too—without gaining an ounce!
