Summary

Just as tiny colored squares called pixels allow you to represent images digitally, it is possible to represent a physical sound digitally by sampling it several thousand times a second. Sampled digital audio can be recorded in a variety of different sound qualities, which dramatically impact the size and memory requirements of the digital sounds. Digital sounds in Windows are known as waves, and are stored in files with a .WAV file extension. In addition to learning how waves work, you also learned in this hour how MIDI music is used to represent music in computers. The hour concluded by giving you some practical tips regarding creating your own digital sound effects.

The next hour takes what you learned in this hour and applies it to game programming. More specifically , you find out how to write code to play digital sounds in games .
