4.7 Interface Requirements Specification (IRS)

 < Day Day Up >

The IRS document should translate all required user functionality into an elegant user-interface (UI) description. Each level of the UI should be detailed, including function keys, hot keys, user dialogs, and so on. As much as possible, all of the UI development should follow preestablished standards for the systems environment into which the deliverable will be placed. It is not a good practice to drop functionality into an existing systems infrastructure that operates with a UI that is quite different from the UI found in existing applications in the organization. Therefore, the design of the UI should be reviewed by the Core Team and signed off on by the Project Sponsor to ensure adherence to prescribed systems standards. Of course, the exception here is if the organization has decided to change from one UI standard to a new one, and this project would be in the vanguard of such an effort.
