2.1 Forming a Core Team

It is the Project Manager's responsibility, once he or she has been assigned to a project, to coordinate with the SPMO and choose from among many people in the organization who will be representatives on the Core Team. The Core Team should be made up of key representation from all affected areas of the business. It is a mistake to select all of the team members from a single part of the organization. For example, you should select someone from IT, Finance, Quality, Sales, Marketing, and so on, for a large, cross-functional project. The general rule is that any organization that will be affected in any way with the implementation of this project needs to be involved.

Each team member selected for the project will have his or her name added to the Core Team Roster (CTR). This roster of names will also be added to the project binder. The following is a sample CTR:
