Who Should Read This Book and Why?

Whether you are a Perl programmer looking to explore Perl's XML facilities or an XML developer in another language with a basic understanding of Perl, we will provide examples of all the tools required for XML processing using Perl. This book is not intended to be your first book on programming, and it is not going to teach you Perl or XML. We assume that the reader has a basic programming knowledge of Perl and an understanding of XML. Our task is to show you how to use these two technologies together. If you're new to both XML and Perl, we've included a couple appendixes to help you get familiar with the topics. Appendixes A, "What is XML?" and B, "Perl Essentials" provide a primer on XML and Perl, respectively.
