Hiding and Templating

Hiding an object does exactly what it sounds like: It makes the object invisible, allowing you to see any objects behind it. This can be useful when you want to focus on a particular area of a scene.

Templating an object lets you see how it's placed without it getting in the way of viewing or selecting other objects. When you template an object, it's displayed as a gray, non-selectable wireframe. Templated objects can only be selected in the view by switching to hierarchy selection mode and selecting the Template mask.

Both hidden and templated objects can still be selected from the Outliner or Hypergraph.

To hide a selected object:

1.

Select an object to hide (Figure 5.34).

2.

Choose Display > Hide > Hide Selection (Figure 5.35), or press .

  • You can also select multiple objects and hide them using the method described in this task.

To show the last hidden object:

    All hidden objects become visible.

To template an object:

1.

Select the object(s) you want to template (Figure 5.38).

To untemplate an object:

1.

Switch to hierarchy mode, and click the template selection mask icon to enable selection of templates.

2.

Select the templated object or objects that you want to untemplate.

The selected templated object becomes light pink.

3.

Choose Display > Object Display > Untemplate (Figure 5.41).

Figure 5.41. You can untemplate selected objects by choosing Display > Object Display > Untemplate.
