Additional Resources

There are hundreds of Maya- and 3D-related resources on the Web. One of my favorites is www.highend3d.com. Highend3D offers tutorials, forums, and listservs to which many talented 3D artists contribute daily. Some other good 3D tutorial and informational sites include CGtalk (www.cgtalk.com), 3D Café (www.3dcafe.com), 3D Ark (www.3dark.com), and Animation World Network, or AWN (www.awn.com).

Tip

  • Chapter 16, "Cameras and Rendering," and Chapter 17, "MEL and Expressions Primer," cover scripting. Because the column in this book is narrower than the common text editor screen, sometimes lines of code printed in the steps have to be broken where they do not otherwise break in your editor. A small gray arrow indicates when this kind of break occurs. For example:

     print "This is going to be a longer  line of code.";

    You should continue to use one line in your scripts, or else you'll encounter errors when executing.
