Summary

This chapter's goals were as follows :

  • To learn to leverage the .NET Dataset's support for XML

  • To explore the System.Xml namespace

  • To review the .NET namespaces for overall XML support

In this chapter, you saw how integrated XML is in the .NET Framework. I showed this integration by discussing and demonstrating the ADO.NET Dataset's support for XML. From there, I discussed several .NET namespaces (including System.Xml) that provide XML support. As this chapter's discussion was, in some cases, high level and in summary fashion, you will want to take advantage of the references provided in the "To Learn More" section at the end of this chapter. The material provided in this chapter should certainly assist you in getting started with and preparing for your continued learning.

The next chapter introduces the topic of user interfaces. I will discuss Windows and Web (or ASP.NET) “type applications. For this reason, (going forward) I will discontinue the regular use of the Console Application template for the sample code projects. As appropriate, most of the sample code in the future chapters will use the Windows Application, ASP.NET Web Application, or ASP.NET Web Service Project template. Undoubtedly, you will welcome this switch.
