Summary

This chapter's goals were as follows :

  • To explore the use of .NET's Control class to create informative Windows applications

  • To discuss ways to use HTML controls and Web controls to develop interactive ASP.NET applications

  • To discover opportunities for XML Web services

In the three sections of this chapter, you have focused on adding value to your user and application interfaces for the benefit of your end users. In the first section, you explored a few Control classes that you could use to add value to your .NET Windows applications. The second section opened the floodgates to a full discussion of various types of Control classes available to ASP.NET applications. In that section, I suggested user validation as a way to add value to your application. In the last section, I presented several XML Web service opportunities made available by a few vendors , with hopes to inspire the creation of great XML Web services or the consumption of some of the better ones being published.

In the next chapter, you will explore managing state and cache. Although you will recognize that managing state and cache are certainly value-adding opportunities, the next chapter places significantly less emphasis on controls and the user interface.
