Chapter 15. Dialing in with PPP
In Chapter 13, "Connecting to the Internet," we demonstrated how to configure the system to allow us to connect into a remote network. This connection was based on a permanent link, such as a leased line. Here, we will describe how to connect remotely, assuming we don't have access to that line; instead we'll use a dialup connection in conjunction with a software component named PPP. PPP allows a virtual network to be created over a serial connection, which in turn allows TCP/IP to run across it.
