When updating your website, check that errors aren’t incorporated into your updates. If a mistake does get by you, fix it immediately upon discovery. As a website grows and changes, your site’s fault-free design can become riddled with mistakes. For instance, you may find that gradually:
- The site’s navigation scheme begins to breakdown.
- Broken links become the norm.
- Individual web pages have become too long. People don’t like scrolling, two screens per page should be the maximum.
- Too many graphics have been attached to one page.
- You haven’t kept up with mundane updates, e.g. the site’s copyright information is out-of-date (2001 instead of 2004); contact information is inaccurate — you especially want to have accurate sales contact information at all times. (Consider using general position email addresses names such as <info@yourwebsite.com> or <sales@yourwebsite.com>, rather than individual names).
