Small simple programs written to automate specific tasks are often referred to as “macros.”
Mail List –
A program that allows a discussion group based on the e-mail system.
MAN (Metropolitan Area Network) –
Two or more LANs links together so resources between the LANs can be shared.
Merchant Account –
A business account at a financial institution that functions as a clearing account for credit card transactions.
Meta tags –
HTML code between the <HEAD> and </HEAD> section of a web page. Meta tags are accessed by a search engine’s spider and used by search engines to describe your entire website and individual web pages. Meta tags are either in the form of keywords or a descriptive phrase.
Micropayments –
A business transaction type, which specializes in the sub-dollar range. Although each transaction is a small amount, it can add up to a sizable market because of global access of the Internet.
Mirroring –
As used in this book, the term “mirroring” refers to the creation of multiple websites that are exact duplicates of an existing website.
Motherboard –
A circuit board that everything (adapter cards, CPU, RAM, etc.) plugs into and therefore provides the actual physical connection between the different components that make up the computer.
