Conclusion

 < Day Day Up >

The author had a somewhat "chicken before the egg" dilemma. Should the reader learn a bit about Wi-Fi's modulation techniques before moving on to a technical discussion of the individual standards or should the discourse on standards come before the modulation tutorial. As you can see, it was decided modulation would be first. Hopefully, the reader will agree that this is the correct order.

Many of the traditional modulation techniques hinder throughput capabilities of wireless devices by restricting the number of bits that can be encoded by analog signal values. But the desire for increased throughput over wireless links has led to new, innovative techniques for signal modulation at the OSI's Physical Layer. These new techniques provide for parallel data transmission while making the transmission more robust and resilient against channel errors.

Look for more innovations in this area in the future.
