Xiamen is a port city on China's south- eastern coast in the Fujian province . It is only 120 nautical miles from Taiwan across the Taiwan Straits. It covers an area of 1,516 square kilometres, of which Xiamen Island is 127 square kilometres. It has a population of 1.29 million. Xiamen city is one of China's first four Special Economic Zones, and has been granted the right to manage its own economic affairs while offering preferential investment policies to foreign companies.
