Foreign trade
Zhuhai's total foreign trade value in 2000 was US$9.164 billion ,up by 45.79 per cent over US$6.286 billion in 1999. Total export value was US$3.645 billion, up by 35.07 per cent over US$2.699 billion in 1999 and equivalent to 92 per cent of the city's total GDP (about US$3.966 billion) and 4 per cent of Guangdong's total export value.
Export of primary commodities was US$173 million, 5 per cent of the total export value. Export of manufactured products reached US$3.472 billion, or 95 per cent of the total export value.
The city's exports were destined for 140 countries and regions (see Table 7.45.2). Hong Kong remained the city's biggest supplier of imported goods and Hong Kong and Macao had a combined share of nearly 70 per cent of Zhuhai's total import.

Total import value was US$5.518 billion, up by 52.86 per cent over US$3.587 billion in 1999. Import of primary goods was worth US$274 million, 5 per cent of the total import value. The remaining 95 per cent went on manufactured products: US$5.244 billion.
Among the top five import markets (see Table 7.45.3), Iran ranked first with a share of 48.91 per cent of the city's total import value. This was due to the heavy import of processed petroleum products. The city's import of oil and related products, chemical material, various kinds of machines, telecommunication equipment and devices totalled US$2.12 billion.
