Lying in the sub-tropics, the city has a mild climate, plenty of rainfall and a coastline of 467 kilometres with ample tropical and marine resources. It produces sugar cane, jute, pineapple, pepper and coffee. It is also one of China's major rubber producers . Aquatic products include lobster, prawn, grouper, abalone and jellyfish. The Leizhou Peninsula is rich in petroleum reserves . At present, Zhanjiang ranks first in the province in deep- sea fishing , aquaculture, salt production, offshore petroleum and gas.
