Foreign trade


In 2000, Wenzhou's foreign trade value was US$2.02 billion, up by 64.3 per cent over US$1.227 billion in 1999. Export, in aggregate, surged by 82.1 per cent to US$1.5 billion in 2000, from US$823 million in 1999. Export of primary products amounted to US$28.43 million, 1 per cent of the total export, while industrial manufactured products stood at US$1.47160 billion, or 99 per cent of the total.

Wenzhou had a diversified export market of 169 countries and regions in 2000. The top five export destinations (see Table 7.39.2) had only 36.8 per cent of the total export value.

Import value stood at US$520million, an increase of 27.9 per cent over US$403 million in 1999. Of the total imports, primary products brought in US$118.60 million, or 22.8 per cent of the total, while industrial manufactured products stood at US$401.40 million, accounting for 77.2 per cent of the total.

The city's imports came from 66 countries and regions. The top five import markets (see Table 7.39.3) took up 71 per cent of the city's total import.
