The Port of Ningbo is one of the few ports in the world with 100 million tonnes of cargo throughput every year. It is also one of the few that can host ships of up to 300,000 tonnes. There are 132 berths of over 500 tonnes including 17 of over 50,000 tonnes. Among these are a 50,000 tonne berth for liquid chemicals, a dedicated container berth for fourth and fifth generation container vessels, an ore transhipment berth for 200,000 tonne vessels (also for vessels of 300,000 tonnes) and the 250,000 tonne terminal for crude oil. These are the largest berths in China at present. Ningbo is well connected by railway systems to other parts of the province and from there to the rest of China. The Greater Ningbo area has 5,155 kilometres of highway and highway density is 55 kilometres per square kilometre.
