Nantong is situated in the south of Jiangsu Province on the north bank of the Yangtze River estuary, facing Shanghai across the Yangtze River. It is 128 kilometres from Shanghai. Nantong is criss-crossed by rivers and canals and has a 430km coastline. It has a total area of 8,000 square kilometres and a population of 7.85 million.
