The city attracted less foreign investment in 2000 than in 1999. Contracted investment was down by 7 per cent to US$102.2 million. A total of 116 contracts were approved in the year (see Table 7.36.3).
Among the FDI projects, 103 projects were production- orientated and 13 were non-production- related . Foreign investment came from 17 countries and regions . Key sources are shown in Table 7.36.4.

In 2000, an additional 52 foreign- funded enterprises were in production. The total value of foreign earnings generated by FIEs in 2000 reached US$102.27 million, up by 11 per cent over US$91.90 million in 1999 and accounting for 26 per cent of the city's total export value.
