The city is one of China's biggest seaports. It has 35 berths of 10,000 tonnes with an annual handling capacity of 35 million tonnes. It has opened up nearly 70 international lines of container shipping. The port has established trade relations with over 1000 ports in nearly 160 countries and regions . On land, the New Eurasian Continental Bridge connects the city with western Asia and European countries. The railway links the city to all major centres of China. Lianyungang is one of the 46 highway hubs in China. The Lianhuai, Lianxu and Tongsan expressways pass through the city. The inland waterway link directly to the Great Canal of Jing Hang and the Yangtzi River. Civil aviation lines have been opened up to major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Xiamen and Kunming.
