Qingdao is a major economic centre in Shandong Province. Situated on the eastern tip of the Shandong Peninsula, in Jiaozhou Bay in the Yellow Sea, Qingdao is one of China's principal ports with a coastline of 870 kilometres. The city has a total area of 10,654 square kilometres and the city proper covers 1,102 square kilometres. The population is 7.1049 million. Major economic indicators are shown in Table 7.35.1.
