With a coastline of 909 kilometres, Yantai is one of the key bases of the fishing industry, producing many offshore aquatic products, including prawns, sea cucumbers, abalone and scallops. It is also one of the key fruit producers in northern China. Peanuts, Yantai apple and Laiyang pears are famous in China and abroad. In addition, 36 minerals have been discovered , 20 of which have been exploited. The city supplies 25 per cent of China's gold and 20 per cent of its talcum.
