Yantai is one of the coastal cities of Shandong Province and is a key city on the Economic Ring around the Bohai Sea, a priority area of development in China. Located in the eastern part of the Shandong Peninsula, Yantai faces the Liaodong Peninsula across the Bohai Straits to the north. It administers four districts, one county and seven county-level cities with a total area of 13,700 square kilometres and has a population of 6.45 million. Major economic indicators are shown in Table 7.34.1.
