Dalian approved 697 FDI contracts in 2000, with a total contracted investment of US$2.386 billion, a slight decrease by 3 per cent as compared with 1999.
The city's FDI in 2000 was characterized by a dominant number of solely foreign-owned enterprises (see Table 7.32.4).

Among the FDI projects approved in 2000, 485 projects were of production-orientated and 212 projects were non-production- related . FDI came from 32 countries and regions. The main investing countries and regions are set out in Table 7.32.5.

By the end of 2000, 3930 foreign-invested enterprises had begun operation. The output value of the operating FIEs totalled RMB59 billion, an increase of 30 per cent, while profit totalled RMB3.5 billion, up by 600 per cent. Export value came to US$4.12 billion, up by 36.3 per cent.
