Dalian, one of the largest cities in Liaoning province , is located at the southern end of Liaodong peninsula in north-eastern China. It faces the Yellow Sea to the east and the Bohai Sea to the west. The Shandong peninsula is to the south. The port of Dalian is the trade gateway to the sea and provides access to and outlets for the three provinces in north-eastern China (Liaoning, Jilin and Heilongjiang) and also the eastern part of Inner Mongolia. Dalian covers an area of 12,574 square kilometres and has a population of 5.5 million. Major economic indicators are shown in Table 7.32.1.
