More than 100 mineral deposits have been discovered in the province , including iron, manganese, molybdenum, chromium, aluminium, copper , cobalt, vanadium, lead, nickel, mercury and gold. Shaanxi's asbestos reserves are the third largest in China, and its coal deposits rank fourth in the country. The northern part of Shaanxi has abundant reserves of coal, natural gas and petroleum. The waterpower potential is 12.74 million kilowatts.
