Infrastructure

As yet there is still no railway line in the region, but the construction of the Qingzang Railway, specifically the section from Golmud to Lhasa, will change this. The region has more than 22,000 kilometres of highway , connecting it with other parts of the country. Air services offer more than 25 domestic and international air routes to Chengdu, Chongqing, Beijing, Xi'an, Qinghai and Katmandu in Nepal, amongst others. A new air route to Shanghai has been in service since April 2000. Telecommunications have been developing rapidly and mobile phone and Internet services are available in all major cities of Tibet.
