In 2000, Chongqing approved 190 foreign-invested projects, an increase of 12.4 per cent over 1999, with contracted foreign investment dropping by 29.5 per cent against 1999 (see Table 7.22.4). The foreign investment actually utilised achieved a fractional increase of 2.3 per cent, to US$244.4 million.

Among these FDI projects, 111 were engaged in production activities, and 79 projects were in other operations.

The total export value of the operating FIEs reached US$97.94 million, up by 57.56 per cent over 1999. Total profit and tax reached a combined RMB1.160 billion, up by 21.96 per cent. Foreign- related tax revenue totalled RMB2.19 billion, accounting for 23.57 per cent of the municipality's total tax revenue.
