Infrastructure

Beihai, Qinzhou and Fangcheng are Guangxi's major ports with more than 23 berths for 10,000-tonne vessels. Inland river ports such as Nanning, Wuzhou and Gui-gang also play a significant role in the region's inland water transport system. The navigation channel of the Xijiang River is linked with Zhujiang in Guangdong Province from where ships can reach Whampoo port as well as Hong Kong and Macao. Five airports are located in Guilin, Nanning, Liuzhou, Beihai and Wuzhou and air services link Nanning and Gulin with Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hong Kong and many other cities. Guilin and Lijiang are popular tourist centres . The region has several trunk railway lines, with Liuzhou as the hub. Over 98 per cent of rural towns are accessible by bus. The telecommunications system has been greatly improved as a result of heavy investment.
