Resources


The province is rich in natural resources. Non-ferrous minerals have been found in many places and it has the largest deposits of tungsten, bismuth and antimony in China. Non-metallic minerals such as coal, realgar, marble, granite, fluorite are present in large quantities . The province produces more lead, zinc, hard alloy, salt fluorite and ramie textile products than any other part of the country, and its production of tungsten, electric aluminium, electric zinc, mercury and pottery ranks second. The province also has a water power resource potential of 13 million kilowatts. The timber reserves amount to 180 million cubic metres. Hunan is the fifth largest grain producer in China. It is also the largest producer of tea and the third largest producer of oranges.
