The province is underlain with rich non-ferrous metals and rare metal deposits. Of the more than 140 mineral reserves in the world, 126 are found in Jiangxi, of which 73 have been verified . Its copper and silver deposits rank first in China. The total copper reserves amount to 12 million tonnes. Tungsten deposits rank second in the province and output is the highest in the country. The province's deposits of heavy rare-earth metals are well known, and its tantalum, niobium and uranium reserves occupy important positions in the country's total reserves. The province ranks third in the country in terms of timber reserves and it also has ample geo- thermal energy resources and mineral water.
