Shanghai, China's largest city, is situated on the estuary of the Yangtze River in the East China Sea and bordered by Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces . It is one of the four municipalities that are under the direct jurisdiction of the central government. It has a total area of 6,341 square kilometres and a population of 13.27 million.
