In 2000, a total of US$2.986 billion in goods, an increase of 36.28 per cent compared with US$2.19 billion in 1999, were exported from and imported into Heilongjiang Province .
Total export was US$ 1.451 billion, up by 52.70 per cent over US$ 950 million in 1999. It equates to 3.70 per cent of the provincial GDP, which was RMB325.5 billion (US$39.216 billion) and 0.58 per cent of the total export value of the whole country. Primary products constituted 30.32 per cent of total export while manufactured products made up 69.68 per cent.
Exports were destined for 150 countries and regions and the top five markets (see Table 7.8.2) took over 70 per cent of exports. Russia was the province's leading trading partner, but its share in the market declined from 40.79 per cent in 1995 to 31.94 per cent in 2000.

Import value totalled US$1.535 billion, up by 23.7 per cent over US$1.24 billion in 1999. Import of primary products and manufactured products amounted to US$619 million and US$915 million, constituting 40.33 per cent and 59.67 per cent of total import value. Imports originated from 55 countries and regions. Nearly 60 per cent of the province's total imports were from Russia and the top five import markets (see Table 7.8.3) accounted for just over 80 per cent of total imports.
