Utilization of foreign direct investment


Foreign direct investment in the province increased by 32.3 per cent in terms of total contract value in 2000. 363 FDI projects were approved in that year (see Table 7.7.4).

Foreign direct investment came from 53 countries and regions . South Korea ranked first in terms of the total number of projects while Hong Kong invested the most (see Table 7.6.5).

By the end of 2000, 3,782 foreign- funded enterprises had been approved in Jilin province. Among these enterprises, 2966 were in production. To classify by sector, 137 were in agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fisheries, 30 in the mining industry, 2,589 in the manufacturing industry, 15 in power, gas and water producing and supplying, 195 in the construction industry, 153 in wholesale, retail and food services and 396 in social services. In 2000, the total sales revenue from foreign-invested enterprises came to RMB31.71 billion.
