The province is situated in the central part of north-east China, bordered by Russia in the north-east and the People's Democratic Republic of Korea across the Tumen and Yalu rivers in the south-east. Mountains, hills and flat land range from east to west. The total area of the province is 187,400 square kilometres with a population of 27 million. The provincial capital is Changchun.
