The province is endowed with rich mineral resources. Its iron ore reserves rank first in the country, amounting to some 22 per cent of the nation's total. In addition, the province has many varieties of non-ferrous metals consisting mainly of manganese, copper , lead, zinc and magnesium. The province also boasts nearly 30 kinds of non-metallic ores, including coal, oil shale and talcum. The province abounds in such valuable medicinal items as ginseng and pilose antler. The Liaohe Oilfield is one of the largest oilfields in China, and there are rich salt resources along the province's coastline. The province's long coastline offers favourable conditions for fishery development. Luda is a famous fishery production base in China, supplying seafood for both the domestic and overseas markets.
