Foreign trade


The total import and export value of Hebei stood at US$5.235 billion in 2000, an increase of 14.3 per cent on 1999.

The total export value was US$3.707 billion, a rise of 18.85 per cent on 1999. Its share in the national export value was 1.49 per cent. The export value was equal to 6.05 per cent of the provincial GDP, which stood at RMB507.631 billion (US$ 61.321 billion).

Export of primary products accounted for US$1.121 billion and of manufactured products US$2.586 billion, or 30.24 per cent and 69.76 per cent respectively of the total export value (see Table 7.3.2). Total import value in 2000 was US$1.528 billion, an increase of 4.59 per cent on 1999. Import of primary products totalled US$554 million or 37 per cent of the total import value while that of manufactured products amounted to US$974 million, accounting for 64 per cent of the total import value (see Table 7.3.3).
