Mining opportunities in China are obvious from the above analysis. China needs foreign capital, technologies and management to upgrade its mining industry. To achieve this, China has introduced policies to encourage foreign participation in non-petroleum and non-gas mineral projects. In the resource-rich western region of China, more preferential treatments are offered for foreign investment. As a recent change in the government stance on foreign investments in the mining industry, a new policy has been implemented from 1 July 2002, making geological information available to both Chinese and foreign concerns.
With the depletion of some key mineral resources, export opportunities for foreign mining companies will increase.
