In this chapter, you learned about the importance of authentication in Active Directory. The most common ways to increase the security of authentication are by securing passwords, properly configuring interoperability, and using encryption. We looked at the different authentication protocols and their respective strengths and weaknesses as well as which ones are compatible with each other.
There are different types of trusts that can be configured and some are more secure than others. You learned the nuances of using authentication protocols with different trusts. Specifically, you learned which trusts are default trusts and which ones must be manually configured.
We showed you how to analyze the requirements of accounts and their passwords. You should be able to distinguish among internal, external, and administrator accounts and know the difference in the approach to the requirements of each. We later explained how to design a secure password policy for your organization’s accounts.
