The eBay API is a large and complex interface. This chapter walked you through a number of things to help you get started working with the eBay API, including the following:
Signing up for the API
Performing your first REST call
Performing a series of SOAP calls
The initial GetTime request allowed the development of a few functions that made generating further calls rather easy. Navigating the category hierarchy and searching eBay built on those generic functions to allow building of a few sample applications. Finally, listing an item with eBay required some basic improvements to those generic functions to handle the more advanced call types. Keep in mind that this chapter just scratched the surface of eBay's SOAP API — there's a lot more to it, so if developing for eBay is a priority for you, I strongly recommend reading through eBay's SOAP WSDL documentation.
The last few chapters have covered some of the major websites and their APIs. The next chapter and Chapter 11 looks at a few other interesting web APIs available to you before you move on to create your own.
