Modifying Component Color Properties and Parameters

There are several ways you can easily modify the appearance and functionality of your components. With the Flash 8 User Interface components, you can customize the face color of each instance with little effort. Let's look at how you accomplish this.

First of all, open the Property inspector. As you have already seen, the Parameters and Properties tabs contain information on the attributes of your component. This is possibly the easiest and quickest way to change the appearance of your component. Simply by selecting the Properties tab and then the Color menu, you can alter the Brightness, Tint, Alpha, or a combination of these elements by choosing Advanced. You can see the changes made to the face of your component after publishing or previewing your movie.

The Parameters tab enables you to change the built-in component parameters to ones better matching your site or the usage of your component. For example, on a ScrollPane instance, you can change the horizontal and vertical scroll attributes (visibility) in this area by clicking the value area and selecting an option from the list. The Component Inspector panel (and the Component Definition dialog box, if applicable) is another area that enables you to modify or customize the functionality of your components.
