Provider Configuration

My first task using the ASP.NET Web Site Administration Tool was to set up the provider configuration. Figure 7-2 shows the Provider page.

Note 

If you have the Web.config file open in Visual Studio while you make changes with the ASP.NET Web Site Administration Tool, you might get a message when you return to Visual Studio telling you that the Web.config file has been changed outside of Visual Studio. You should accept the changes.

Of the two options, the first is the most commonly selected and easiest to use. Click Select A Single Provider For All Site Management Data, and the page appears as shown in Figure 7-3.

Generally, a single provider is listed. You should click Test to ensure that the provider is properly configured. If it is not properly configured, you are instructed to run Aspnet_regsql.exe, as described in Chapter 5, "Data Binding."
