What Makes a Good Biometric for Network Security?

 <  Day Day Up  >

A good biometric for network security would have the following characteristics:

  • Users willingly accept the biometric device

  • Users find it easy to use

  • The total technology costs provide a suitable ROI

  • The technology is deployable and supportable

  • The technology is not invasive and requires the user to actively submit to its use

  • The technology is mature and reliable

  • Users quickly become habituated to the device

By the list of requirements above, many devices could be found. The intended use of the device, the types of users, and the location in which the users will use the device will help in narrowing down the selection.

Moving forward, in the next chapters, the different biometric technologies will be introduced. In a subsequent section, the implementation of a biometric for network security will be described.
