2. Select a Display Language

Your BlackBerry device is essentially a personal communicator, and as such it is important for it to speak the same language you speak. Although BlackBerry devices can be configured to operate using a variety of languages, your device likely came configured to support only those languages common to where you live. Regardless of that, you'll want to ensure that your device is set to use the proper language. In all likelihood , this is a setting you probably won't need to change, but it's worth taking a quick peek just to be safe.

1.
Open the Tools Screen

Scroll to the Tools icon on the Home screen and click the trackwheel. The Tools screen appears, offering a list of tool options.

2.
Open the Settings Screen

Scroll to the Settings icon and click the trackwheel. A list of options for which you can change the settings appears.

3.
Open the Language Screen

Scroll to the Language option in the list of settings and click the trackwheel. The Language screen opens.

TIP

You can quickly navigate to the Language option on the Settings screen by pressing the L key on the keyboard.

4.
Select Your Language

If the language you want your BlackBerry unit to use differs from the language that appears on the Language screen, use the trackwheel to highlight the text in the Language field and click the trackwheel; then click Change Option in the menu that appears. A list of alternative language options appears.

Scroll the trackwheel through the list of alternative languages, and click to accept the choice you've made.

TIP

To quickly change an option without having to go through the two trackwheel clicks required to open a menu and select Change Option , highlight the option and press the Alt key to view a list of choices. Then scroll to the desired choice and click the trackwheel to select it. An even faster shortcut involves cycling to the next available choice by pressing the Space key; pressing Shift + Space cycles to the previous choice.

NOTE

The BlackBerry 7100 series supports language dialects for different locales. For example, there are variations of English for the United States and Great Britain. Because wireless providers usually target a specific locale, your device might already be configured with the correct language setting.

5.
Exit and Save Changes

Press the Escape button to exit the Language screen. If you changed the language, you're prompted to save or discard the changes. When prompted, scroll the trackwheel to the Save option and click to save the changes. You're returned to the Settings screen. Press the Escape button twice to navigate back to the Home screen, or just press the End key once.
