The Tasks application includes a few options that enable you to fine-tune the manner in which the application displays tasks. The options made available by the Tasks application also allow you to do away with the delete confirmation prompt that appears whenever you delete a task. Although doing away with this prompt can be a time-saver, it does make it easier to accidentally delete tasks. In addition to offering a couple of useful option settings, the Tasks application provides a quick and easy way to determine how many tasks you have active.

1.
Open the Applications Screen

Scroll to the Applications icon on the Home screen and click the trackwheel. The Applications screen appears, showing a list of applications, including the Tasks application.

2.
Launch the Tasks Application

Scroll to the Tasks icon and click the trackwheel. The Tasks application is launched and displayed on the screen.

3.
Open the Tasks Options Screen

Click the trackwheel and select Options from the menu that appears. Click once more to open the Tasks Options screen.

4.
Configure Task Options

The Tasks Options screen includes a couple options that control how tasks are displayed and how they are deleted, as well as a purely informational statistic about how many tasks you currently have active. The first option, Sort By , determines the order in which tasks are displayed in the task list. You can use the Sort By field to sort tasks by Subject, Priority, Due Date , or Status .

TIP

The Sort By setting is obviously up to your own personal needs, but I find that sorting tasks by Due Date is typically the most helpful because it allows me to see the tasks in chronological order. Alternatively, if you want to get a feel for where each task lies in terms of completion, sort by Status .

The Confirm Delete option is the other option on the Tasks Options screen, and it controls whether you are prompted to confirm the deletion of a task. The default value of this setting is Yes , which requires you to agree to a prompt before deleting a task. Unless you don't mind the risk of accidentally deleting a task, I recommend keeping the default setting.

The Number of Entries field on the Tasks Options screen isn't an option but instead provides you with the total number of tasks on your device. This piece of information can help you get a handle on how much work you have ahead of you in terms of a total task count.

5.
Exit and Save Changes

When you're finished configuring task options, press the Escape button. If you made changes to any of the options, you are prompted to save them. Click Save to keep the changes or Discard to ignore the changes.
