31.6 Configuring the Caching DNS

   

To configure a caching server is easy using the following steps.

  1. Create a /etc/named.data directory using the mkdir command.

  2. Copy the named.cacheonly file from the primary DNS as /etc/named.boot .

  3. Copy db.127.0.0 from the primary server to the /etc/named.data directory.

  4. Copy db.cache from the primary server to the /etc/named.data directory.

  5. Update the /etc/rc.config.d/namesvrs file to start named at boot time. The value of the NAMED variable in this file should be changed to 1.

  6. Start named using the /sbin/init.d/named start command.
