What You've Learned

  • Unless it's a Kerberized service, File Transfer Protocol is not secure under any circumstances because the password is passed in clear text.

  • To force SSH to use version 2 of the protocol, type ssh -2 username@hostname when connecting to the SSH server.

  • You can use ssh-keygen t dsa or rsa to create the key pair used to augment or replace password authentication with SSH.

  • The Apple VPN solution supports both L2TP and PPTP protocols.

  • You can force all traffic to go over the VPN connection.
